Wood Flagpole Workmanship

Mike's story of wood skills goes back to the year 1971, and a certain 50 foot sailboat.  He was part of the small construction crew, building a seagoing beauty with loving care.  Just as seaport artisans in previous centuries handcrafted wooden masts for great sailing ships, Mike helped fabricate the mast for this project: his first flagpole.

Wood flagpole research extended over the next years, combining extensive historical research, product testing and equipment development.  Mike found the right techniques to construct flagpoles of high quality, vertical grain Douglas fir.

Gilligan's Flags and Poles founded in 1985

Mike started his company in 1985 and now, more than five hundred wood flagpoles later, Mike Gilligan is a master of his craft.  His critical tools are custom-built. Talent, traditional materials and modern technology enable Mike to carefully produce a superior re-creation of authentic Americana.

The wood flagpole travels from Mike's hands to yours, the symbol of our country's heritage.  A treasure that adds grace, charm and value to your homestead or business outpost...from Mike Gilligan, the nation's 11th largest manufacturer of wood flag poles in this country today.
